I am a long time viewer of the Hannity and Colmes program on the Fox News network. When you watch this type of program often I as do, you would think that there'd be a point where you aren't shocked anymore. But I still haven't managed to reach that point yet. It always amazes me how Sean and Allen can just talk past each other. I don't know how you can face someone night after night like these two characters do and totally ignore each other and their guests points of view. All Sean and Allen care about is sticking to their points.
As a example recently, Sean Hannity has been talking about the close relationship between Barack Obama and his controversial pastor. Sean's point of view is that Obama's pastor is a divisive person and teaches a racially offensive theology that most Christians would totally reject. On the other hand Allen Colmes repeatedly says that people shouldn't engage in guilt by association.
So here's my problem with how Sean and Allen are handling this subject. With Sean trying to use this issue as a negative point against Obama, he's causing people to become desensitized to how serious this issue really is. And with Allen using the guilt by association argument he's trying to insulate Obama from people looking into the nature of the relationship between him and his pastor.
I think the guilt by association argument is totally specious. Guilt by association is a legal term. It's used to protect people from being considered criminals just because they know someone that's committed a crime. This term was never meant to protect someone from public scrutiny because of the company they choose to keep. And I think that's why if Barack Obama wins the domination of the Democrat Party all the teaching and beliefs the Rev Jeremiah Wright Jr. will need to be examined. As a nation we need to understand why Senator Obama has chosen to have a minister counseling him that has such an extreme spiritual point of view. I wouldn't be so concerned about this issue if it stood entirely alone, but it doesn't.
When you couple the teachings of Senator Obama's church and with his refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin, his refusal to put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem, and his wife's remark that "for the first time in her adult life she's proud of America". Then add in the extreme Afro-centric teachings of the Trinity United Church of Christ then you can begin to gain some needed insight into how Barack Obama functions. I'm not saying that the Senator is an evil person because of his pastor and church. However, I believe that Senator Obama has a world view that is outside the mainstream beliefs of the average US citizen. And he certainly doesn't follow the teachings of any mainstream Christian denomination. So if it turns out that Barack Obama ends up being our President I hope that's it only after our country understands the he's not some fresh faced kid from Illinois bringing a message of hope and change. We should all understand that Barack Obama is a person that has influences in his life that don't fit into the vast majority of how our fellow countrymen think and live. Please at least take the time to get to know this candidate before you go out and vote for him.
